Carmel Teacher Training Partnership (CTTP) is an ‘outstanding’ Initial Teacher Training provider. We work with schools across the urban, semi-rural and rural areas of the North East of England. Our schools are situated in and around Alnwick, Billingham, Bishop Auckland, Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton, Sunderland, and North Yorkshire. Our schools are divided into clusters, so that trainees benefit from placement schools within their local area.
Established in 1999, Carmel Teacher Training Partnership has been inspiring the next generation of teachers for many years and successfully training primary and secondary teachers in a variety of subject areas. CTTP offer both School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) and School Direct programmes leading to the award of Qualified Teacher Status with PGCE. If you are looking for a work-based experience, rather than a traditional university-based route, this course is for you.
CTTP provides high quality teacher training within school-based settings with highly experienced classroom practitioners. This is achieved through a blended approach of central and school-based training activities in regional clusters co-ordinated by our Lead Schools in conjunction with St Mary's Twickenham.
If you are looking for bespoke training based in the North-East within a nurturing and supportive environment, there is no better place for you to start your teaching career than with CTTP.
CTTP OFSTED 2018 - ‘High-quality and personalised training contributes well to trainees’ and NQTs’ development as reflective, confident teachers who are deeply committed to their own professional development.
Tutors and mentors provide sharp, insightful feedback to trainees about the quality of their teaching. The targets set for improvement are accurate, ambitious and achievable. This high-quality feedback contributes exceptionally well to trainees’ success in becoming effective teachers.’
St Mary's OFSTED 2024 - ' Trainees said that there was not a scenario they had encountered on school placement that had not already been anticipated and covered in detail by the university. Trainees praise the depth and quality of this exceptionally ambitious ITE curriculum. . . . . . The curriculum places a strong emphasis on current, credible research, which shapes all aspects of training and mentoring.'
Employment rates are consistently high ~98% in 2023. Each year, a high percentage of trainees gain employment in their placement schools or within our Partnership of schools.
