Mike Shorten - Principal Carmel College, CTTP Director

"Mike Shorten started the partnership in 1999 with just 2 trainees following the RTP and GTP programmes. As the director of CTTP, he has seen through the many changes and current expansion. He has taught in 3 schools over the past 26 years taking on roles such as Head of Year and Head of Department for religious education. Currently in his role as Head of School he leads the day to day business of Carmel College."
Monita Atkinson - Director of Carmel Professional Training Centre
"Monita Atkinson has been at Carmel since qualifying in 1994. During that time she has been a Head of Year for 10 years working within Key Stage 3 and in charge of transition for 5 years liaising with up to 30 primary schools. She has worked with a variety of ITT providers and currently leads 14 mentors and is responsible for 15 trainees. As well as her ITT work she also facilitates and delivers a number of training programmes."
Frances Shorten - Primary Lead
"Frances Shorten has joined CTTP having worked for 26 years in education, her most recent post as a Primary School Head Teacher. Her experience includes working with children from 3-13 years in Primary and Middle Schools, in a range of contexts. Within the team, Frances role involves supporting the Primary Schools and their trainees throughout the course."
Marielle Thonnart - ITT Lead
"Marielle joined Carmel in 2011 and has since enjoyed a variety of roles around the school, from Confucius Classroom manager to International Coordinator. Marielle has been actively involved in supporting professional development for many years, as ITT and NQT mentor, Partnership Link Tutor and as a trainer and facilitator for various programmes, including ITT, TSST, school-to-school support and NPQML. Prior to joining the CTTP team as ITT and Secondary Lead in 2020, Marielle had held the position of Curriculum Leader for MFL for 5 years. Marielle is also lead for the Assessment Only Route to QTS and oversees NQT induction as an Appropriate Body"
Michala Atterby – Training Centre Administrator
"Michala joined Carmel College as administrator in 2016. She has supported many professional development programmes such as Maths Hubs, TSST Maths and Physics and many other research and development projects. She works closely with STEM Learning to support our Science Learning Partnership and Computing Hub led by Teach Computing. Michala is based in the Training Centre and will support you with any queries you may have about the ITT programme. "
