"Mike Shorten started the partnership in 1999 with just 2 trainees following the RTP and GTP programmes. As the founder of CTTP and former Director for many years, he has seen through the many changes and current expansion. He has taught in 3 schools over the past 26 years taking on roles such as Head of Year and Head of Department for religious education."

Michael Flores - CTTP Strategy Group Chair
"Michael Flores taught Modern Foreign Languages and occupied a range of positions: Subject Leader, Senior Teacher (Curriculum / Examinations); Senior Assistant Head Teacher. His most recent role was as a Senior Leader in a CTTP Lead School. He has a long-standing interest in teacher development and was responsible for professional development at St. Anthony’s Girls’ Catholic Academy for twenty-five years. As Professional Tutor he managed both ITE and NQT (nowadays ECF) developments. He took a leading role in the development of Teacher Appraisal and Performance Management within the producing relevant documentation, setting up procedures and leading staff training on these key initiatives. Since his retirement he has worked as Foundation Governor and also as Vice-Chair of Our Lady of Mercy Multi-Academy Trust. He has travelled extensively in China and India and worked with schools and universities in both countries. He has maintained strong links with Linnaeus University, Sweden, and works closely with them on teacher training development."
Meet The Team


"Monica has worked with teacher trainees as a mentor, professional tutor, Headteacher and Director of a Teaching School for three decades. She serves as a Trustee of Schools North-East and is a National Leader of Education. Within the team Monica's role involves having an overview for all programmes with specific responsibility for supporting the secondary schools and their trainees throughout the course. She is also the lead for the Assessment only route to QTS."
Iain Knox - Primary School Improvement and ITT Lead


"Iain Knox has joined CTTP and the School Improvement Team having worked for 27 years in education, his most recent post as a Senior Leader, Primary School Teacher and cluster lead for CTTP. HIs experience includes working with children from 5 - 16 as an Advanced Skills Teacher, supporting schools with Assessment and Curriculum as a Specialist Leader of Education and delivering training for trainee teachers with different ITT providers. Within the team, Iain's role involves supporting the Primary Schools and their trainees throughout the course."
Lily Bonas – Training Centre Administrator


"Lily joined Carmel College as an administrator in January 2021. She had experience in other administrate roles prior to this. Since joining Carmel she has worked in a variety of roles which has involved working with all stakeholders. She works closely with the Computing Hub led by Teach computing. Lily is based in the Training Centre and will support you with any queries you may have about the ITT programme."
Joanne Walker - Director of Tees Valley Teaching School and Director of Carmel Research School


"Joanne Walker has been teaching for 30 years, has been at Carmel College for 22 years and is Assistant Vice Principal. Joanne is the Director of Carmel Research School and is also the Director of the Tees Valley Teaching Hub.
Joanne is passionate about educational research and developing our early career teachers.
